On the contrary, American schools are better than most people think. The current debate topic this year is about education so I have beside me several thousand pages of educational materials. While we are being beaten by such contries as Singapore and Japan, we are not that far from the top. We are by no means at the global middle. Most people I know can read. Public schools are doing an excellent job although there is room for improvement. Perhaps if they were better funded . . .
