August was slow, Oracle (ORCL:Nasdaq) said after
posting what turned out to be disappointing
quarterly results late Tuesday.

Excuses, excuses, after-hours investors scolded.

It is my own personal experience that there is a slowdown
in spending, probably Y2k-related, which is not an Oracle
specific problem. I noticed it a few weeks ago.

I know at least 2 of the major ICT-consultancy firms in
Holland faced a significant increase of "people on the
bench". A situation they haven't seen in years and makes
management quiet nervous. It is a serious problem.

An analist I know had dinner with one of their CEO's
last week.
He (the CEO) expected a decline in profit-margin or
whatever from 17% to 14/16%.

So I buy the Oracle story that one quarter doesn's spell
a bad year. Second, I expect other companies in the sector
also to disappoint.

I posted this on the CPWR-thread about 2 weeks ago.
