No, but once you get past the fastest and second fastest processor, what people are willing to pay gets compressed pretty tightly, as AMD found to its dismay in the beginning of the year. Why pay $600 bucks for the third fastest processor when you can get the fourth fastest for $250 bucks. Nobody wants to pay top dollar for number 3, and very few will, whether it says Intel on it or not. If the fourth fastest also says Intel on it, why not save the $350? You're not getting "the best", either way.

I'm not saying Coppermine won't be able to stay up with Athlon in clock speed, just that if it doesn't, Intel isn't home free. It would cost Intel a lot of money. Even if AMD couldn't produce enough quantity to grab much market share, if AMD holds the high ground in performance it will still cost Intel a great deal.
