JohnKoplik. Pondering the effect of their announcement on sales of thin phones and PDQ phones this fall. Are they really exiting, or just turning the product over to a contract manufacturer. If they actually confirm that the division is up for sale, I postulate that this news will be a real downer for the sales of the Thin Phone and the PDQ phone--just at a time when these products are being born. Q management will have shot themselves in the foot big time. But Q management is not stupid. Therefore it is reasonable to conclude that they are not announcung an outright sale of the division at this time. Thus I postulate that they are seeking contract Mfg and distribution of their phones. Alternately, they may be seking a joint venture with a company having 1) manufacturing plants, 2) distributon systems, and 3) purchasing clout that Q just doesn't have.

Seeking an outright sale and exit from phone manufacture would tend to destroy future sales of their two new phones. After all, would you buy a high tech product--even an excellent product--from a company exiting the business?
