Todd, I'm not accountant either, but I think what you are talking about are "non-recurring" earnings and/or charges. These normally do not get reported as a part of "on-going operations". My experience is that companies rarely get impacted by these (much to my amazement) -- here I am speaking of negative items like AOL taking a one-time charge for accounting purposes a few years ago to reflect adjustments in "subscriber acquisition expense" that they had capitalized... that adjustment wiped out about 2 prior years of "profits" and the stock (at least I think I remember) soared after this "adjustment".

With CMGI, I'm not sure what qualifies as "non-recurring" since their primary business of internet incubator is expected to generate "recurring" yield from investments that are brought to fruition.

I'll look forward to some more insightful responses to your question.

Best regards, Pete
