The problem with "MegaBit Select" is that many users in Seattle (where it's been available for several months) don't have a choice. The internal USWest.net DSL newsgroup has several messages from folks who have been told that the ports for always-on "MegaHome" (which is often only "1/4 Mega", by the way) are sold out. The only choice for those who want ADSL from USWest is to subscribe to the Select service.

The Select service disconnects users after a two-hour session. If a port is available, they can reconnect immediately. So far, I haven't seen many complaints on the newsgroup about the port-unavailable equivalent of a busy signal.
