I thought I understood what "trading prices" meant until I tried to sell some AMCX on Friday @ $2.50. It never executed despite the fact that the "Closing Price" was $2.50.

On Monday it "closed" at 2 5/8; on Tuesday, 2 3/4; today at 2 7/8, yet my order STILL has not executed.

I called my broker and they informed me that all these prices were at the "Ask", and that there were NO ORDERS.

Am I missing something here? Is this some sort of hanky-panky that I am not familiar with? What's to prevent someone from putting in a "Sell" order at $5.00 and have that show up as the "Close"?

I have asked my broker to initiate an "Inquiry" on the transaction, but I thought that someone here might have an answer.

TIA,
Jay
