It is a curious insensitivity to symbol and ritual, but okay, different strokes.... When I lived among pagan tribespeople I was quite fond of their rituals; I could look behind them and see life. Not that I was ever tempted to convert, but there was empathy there. Looking behind Catholicism never showed me more than dessicated form; whatever substance the form sprang from was long forgotten. It all seemed a heroic attempt to reanimate a corpse that had long since rotted away. No form of religion appeals to me, but the more organized and hierarchical a religion becomes, the less "religious" it is going to be. The Catholic Church is probably the best existing example.
