ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 1999--I-Link, Inc., (NASDAQ:ILNK), a provider of enhanced voice/data services today announced that it has selected Newbridge Networks to provide the asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) backbone for its Internet Protocol (IP) telephony network. The company plans to deploy the Newbridge MainStreetXpress(TM) 36170 MultiServices Switch, the industry's largest selling ATM switch, throughout its nationwide IP network.
By incorporating the new multiservice platform switch, I-Link is able provide low-cost IP-based long-distance, conference calling, voice mail, fax, e-mail and other enhanced communications services such as, one-number call routing, voice/fax over IP and caller screening. "Next Generation carriers are looking to deliver the benefits of IP today," said John Edwards, CEO, I-Link. "Without reliability and QoS, IP telephony is not a viable alternative. I-Link's enhanced voice/data services, supported by the Newbridge broadband multiservice platform, provide an ideal solution for carriers."
