Cha2, regarding your question about "nurturers" vs "incubators", I think it's a great point. Breaking up the DITR makes great sense once we agree on terminology.

Nurturers do not necessarily need to be equity investors. And likewise, incubators do not necessarily need to be nurturers. Maybe I'm splitting hairs here, but does a term come to mind that captures the essence of both? I'm not sure yet, but let's try and come up with something.

How about "Farmers" for instance. I know it's rather mundane in its denotations, but think about it. Farmers not only plant the seeds for their crops, they're also responsible for watering, fertilizing and caring for their crops all the way up until the point when they harvest to fruits of their labor. Just a thought...

Their is also a pure incubator type entity, what I would more associate with the traditional VC role, as well as the nuturer type entity such as as a MSFT or GE can be on occaision when they work with various small businesses without providing them any funding.
