That's correct. The way of getting the snswer without math is essentially the same.

Imagine first that there is no gravity (g=0) and the guns are fired. There will be no forces (assuming also no air resistance) on the cannonballs after the guns are fired, and since the cannonballs are aimed directly at each other, they will collide.

Now introduce gravity. Both bullets will fall for the same time under the same downward acceleration (g=32.2 ft/sec^2), so they will fall exactly the same amount and again collide.
