ATS files for FDA approval of heart valve biz.yahoo.com MINNEAPOLIS, Sept 15 (Reuters) - ATS Medical Inc. said Wednesday it filed an application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for authorization to market its heart valve. ATS said if approved, its valve would be the first open pivot bileaflet valve intended for heart valve replacement. The design of the valve improves the ability of the blood to flow without forming clots. It also allows the valve to close quietly, eliminating the clicking sound produced by some mechanical valves, the company said. The FDA's acceptance of the application does not guarantee approval, and the company pointed out that the review process may include a meeting with an FDA advisory panel.
