I found a very quick way to cut (CTRL-C) and paste (CTRL-V) between AOL and SI. Should have known. Young
Subj: Mike's Comdex UPDATE! Date: 96-06-03 21:47:03 EDT From: IomegaMike
Comdex/ Windows World was excellent.
NEWS,NEWS,NEWS: Iomega sold three million ZIP drives according to the literature they handed out. The Iomega people would not give out any information- Quiet period.
The JAZ music demo was truely awesome. Imagine 7 Jaz drives all running at the same time producing ultra-clean sound repoduction.
The Apple booth had external zip drives at each of the stations at its interactive demo.
Micron had a Internal Jaz at their station.
Gateway had a External Jaz hooked up to one unit.
Sony had its branded Zip disk on display.
Epson had the Epson zip drives on display.
Computer retail weekly (June 3rd issue) had the Iomega\IBM article in it.
There were Iomega Advertising, billboards, posters and Magazine jackets everywhere.
Ameridata sales rep said Iomega products were selling well.
At the HP booth, the tape storage expert said to "Take those Iomega buttons off!!" She was proudly demostrating the 6 GIG tape drive. I informed her that HP was using the ZIP drive in the Pavillian line of computers. She was shocked. I told her to go to circuit city and check it out.
IBM did not have any Iomega products ,but when I confronted the sales lady, she said to keep calling and keep asking for them. Email at website : WWW.IBM.COM ---Same for GATEWAY.
Iomega was most everywhere. Even on the lakefront. They had pairs of IOMEGA roller bladers going up and down Lake Shore Drive, holding IOMEGA banners between them so all of us in the traffic jam could see them! -------------------------------------------------------------- Competition:
No Syquest. No Compaq LS-120. Toray and others had their optical drives. We all know optical is no big deal.
Avatar was truely impressive with their fast, sleek and well built 170MB drives. They were most impressive. They still will only sell to OEMs at about $400 a drive and $40 a disk. No problems for Iomega.
No other competition was there. ----------------------------------------------- Iomega had the fruit stand setup and two TV's playing the Johnney crash and the farm stand commercials for Ditto and ZIP. This exhibit was in the main entrance of the show. It was separate from the main Iomega booth.
Iomega pins were handed out and if the Roving Iomegan took your picture, you could bring it back to the booth and get a Ditto, ZIP or JAZ drive free. I didn't get it, but I did get a free 28.8 Motarola modem for beta testing it. I am glad I went to that booth.
Iomega had many other demo stations, one was for the Zip battery pack that will provide power to the Zip for four hours. Cool!!! There was also many OEM compters in very high and visable areas. After seeing the JAZ in action, I want one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NSACORAF is having the Fool party now, sorry I missed it!
