In the back, a lemon-cucumber that I planted last year grew back. We can't eat it because I've sprayed the roses that are close to it. I'll mark the spot that it grows. Maybe, it will come back next year.

Some of our roses are in bloom. I need to spray the poor things. Mildew is the biggest problem. Next year, I will remove four and throw them away. They have caused constant problems.

I have a feeling that I might end up changing my roses every year. Three new ones are lovely but I don't think the colors blend very well with the others in that rose bed.

I've lost another blue pine. It's under warranty. We planted it late. When we noticed trouble, we took it to the nursery. They admitted it could have been stressed.

In the front, we had so much Preen and mulch put down that weeds have not troubled me greatly.

I've had many, many compliments on the landscaping that we completed earlier in the summer. People stop their cars and tell me how beautiful it looks when I'm out there working. I designed the area. And we bought the plants. Professionals made the paths and finished top-dressing the area with mulch. Apart from the small dead pine, the area is lovely. The guys made the area look very, very nice.

At this time, I am not going to take on a major project next summer even though I've already thought about it. To make life easier, I think I'll move only the roses around.
