"why will their be a charge to earnings? i thought selling something was supposed to be profitable, not costly."

Just a simple misunderstanding. I hope to clarify:

No charge to Q by selling, it would be profitable to Q.

Rephrase question: If a company were in competition with Q, why would they help Q by buying an unprofitable portion of their company? Not only would the purchasing company get weaker, but they would strengthen the competitor (Q). Clear as mud?

No big deal. What ever happens, happens. Just kind of fun to speculate.

Q rocks, it is just a matter of time...
