For some of the newbies (and the rest of us as well!), this is one of the most succinct descriptions I've seen outlining the strategic importance (in terms of rev generation) of the transformation from a circuit based world to a packet based world. Interestingly, this neighbor of PMC, bases much of its QoS capabilities on ATM. This new breed of convergent systems vendor (see Convergent Networks as well - also ATM based), is seeking to throw out the stand-alone router, dsu/csu, pbx, ras, firewall etc., and replace it with one box that aggregates, qualifies, and routes all types of information (VVD). Needless to say, this transformation is only starting and lots and lots of chips will be needed along the way.
