Dear Mr. Thomas:

I am writing in response to your E-mail messages dated 2/14/97 and
4/1/97. We recently filed our 10K with the SEC and I am now able to
comment on the questions you raised in your messages. First, let me
directly respond to your question about the status of the PRO 2000
systemic trial. Due to a number of factors we have decided to put the
PRO 2000 systemic program on hold and focus our efforts on the
development of the topical formulation of PRO 2000.

The primary reason for our decision was the rapid progress we have made
with PRO 2000 Gel as a topical microbicide. We recently started a Phase
I study with PRO 2000 Gel and we believe that this formulation has the
potential to be an important new weapon in the fight against HIV. For
a more detailed description of all of our programs, please refer to our
1996 10K. All of our SEC filings are now available on-line through the
SEC's EDGAR system. You can reach EDGAR through our Web page at
