Four coordinates but not equivalent coordinates. You can travel either direction in the space dimensions, up or down, left or right, forward or reverse. There is a distinct direction in the time coordinate, the so called "arrow of time". It arises according to my limited understanding because time is a rate of change (derivative) of the space dimensions and not just another space dimension. It exhibits itself most precisely in the interactions of the weak force. There is a good (but complex) treatment of this subject in Steven Hawkins "Brief History of Time".
