FastComm Signs Distribution Agreement With Mapra of Brazil

DULLES, VA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 16, 1999--

Agreement Covers Sales and Service of FastComm Multimedia Access, Convergent Technologies, and Enterprise Mainframe Equipment

FastComm Communications Corporation (OTC BB: FSCX) announced an agreement today with Mapra Eletronica Ltda. to supply the Brazilian market with FastComm's advanced voice/fax/video/data router product line.

According to Peter Madsen, president and chief executive officer of FastComm, "Brazil represents the largest potential market in Latin America for our products and services, and this is a significant step in our strategy to expand our reach into selected, high-potential international markets."

Mapra will act as a full-service distributor for FastComm, providing sales, service, installation and maintenance of FastComm equipment. Mapra will market FastComm's line of Voice Over Frame Relay (VoFR) / Voice Over IP (VoIP) routers including the GlobalStack-EX and the MetroLAN ; the popular WebRouter Internet access device; the EtherFRAD and RingFRAD product line; and the new GlobalView product, a GUI-interfaced SNMP network management system.

Mapra will use FastComm equipment to provide its customers with "last mile access" over Frame Relay lines, with the equipment also complementing Mapra's wireless solutions. Founded in 1993 and based in Sao Paulo, Mapra Eletronica Ltda. is one of the premier telecommunication product distributors in Brazil. Mapra provides full installation and support services for an impressive list of clients, including TELEBAHIA, Equitel, Citibank, Banco Itau, and Unibanco. In fact, Mapra is one of the leading providers of wireless solutions to Embratel, the Brazilian long distance carrier recently acquired by MCI as a result of the ongoing privatization of the Brazilian communications marketplace.

Mapra specializes in the areas of transmission of data, voice and wireless communications and represents such industry leaders as CyLink (encryptors), CyLink Wireless (spread spectrum radio), GE Spacenet (VSAT networks), Timeplex (voice/data multiplexers) and INNOVA (microwave radios).

FastComm was introduced to Mapra at the Comdex Trade Show, where Mapra officials were among the invited guests of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP). The VEDP office in Northern Virginia and its representative, Matthias Duys, were instrumental in coordinating FastComm's participation at Comdex, and as a result, share responsibility for this new distribution agreement in Brazil.

"We wish to express our sincere gratitude to Governor Gilmore, Matt Duys and the entire Commonwealth of Virginia's export development team for all their efforts," notes Madsen.

Representatives from 20 companies, including FastComm, from the Commonwealth of Virginia accompanied the Governor on a 13-day trade mission to Brazil, Chile and Argentina in May. As the first Virginia Governor to travel in South America for trade development purposes, Governor Gilmore's mission was designed to open new markets for Virginia products and services.

During the past five years, Virginia exports to South America have increased by 129%. Mapra will be able to offer the best value in enterprise networking products for Internet migration, as well as the migration of legacy applications to newer client/server applications.

"Mapra clients will be able to realize immediate cost savings associated with voice/fax, data and video traffic by utilizing FastComm's convergent technology platforms," adds Madsen.

FastComm designs, develops, and manufactures advanced WAN/LAN/Global network routing and switching equipment, controllers and processors (both mainframe and Unisys environments), Internet access products, and related networking devices. It is a total system solution provider specializing in voice/fax/video/data over IP and Frame Relay. FastComm is a leader in the effort to provide optimal migration paths for legacy networks that are upgrading to newer routing technologies. The corporate goal is to provide customers with leading-edge networking technology and a cost-effective means of incorporating these technologies into new or existing networks.
