Yep! I really did do all nine steps! Including Step 9 to try it on another computer! (...works fine on Windows'95).
Actually ... ppa3nt DOES load ... and if I click on "My Computer", I "see" the zip drive. But when I try to access it, with or without a disk in it, I IMMEDIATELY get the "E:\ not accessible" message. If I unplug the cable from the parallel port in the back of my computer, and then try to access it, I DON'T get the message, but I get a "window" like you get when you double-click on a disk icon ... as if it's going to list the directory of the disk ... but this window is empty (blank). Very strange ...
