Robert,
"Branded", as I understand it, is an interface that is customized to a particular organization, company, etc.
As an example, SI might name their branded Email "SIMail". The interface, or web page you use to send, receive, check inbox, etc, would be in SI's color, contain their logo, and whatever else they want on the page. If you signed up for a free account, your address would be something like Robert_Rose@SIMail.com. Somewhere on the page would be a little blip "powered by CommTouch".
But the best way to find out about branded Email is to see for yourself. I went to the CommTouch website, linked to their partners page and linked to businessweek.com, then set up an email account for myself - pat_mark@businessweekmail.com . It only takes a couple of minutes, and you then can see, as an example, how businessweek.com "branded" their Email system. If you want to do this, go to businessweek.com and link to "Free E-Mail" on the left hand side.
