Yesterday I attended a 3 hour seminar given hosted by Wind River, Sun Microsystems, and Espial Group, and I thought I'd share my experience.

The theme was embedded Java. There must have been 150-200 engineers there (none of whom I knew and that's interesting since I've been around for a while). The tone of the meeting was very upbeat. I was particularly impressed by the Sun presenter, who made a very strong case for Java in the embedded market space and gave a clear roadmap showing how Java is now "Scalable Beyond Belief". I can summarize The Espial Group's message as "You can customize and brand it and make it yours", and that is very compelling when compared to the Microsoft one-size-fits-all Windows CE model.

All very encouraging, and Java was running on everything from a ring, to a pager, and VxWorks was underneath (not on the ring, it only has 16KB of memory)
