In your case, I wouldn't worry about getting third party memory management software for Windows 98. Those types of programs worked well for DOS, and Windows 3.x, but Windows 9x has a fit if you try and mess with the way it manages memory.

Considering you're only running a couple of windows with a fair amount of RAM, the problem most likely lies (IMO) in two areas:

1) One of your programs is causing a 'memory leak'. Look for upgrades...especially for the browser

2) You have software running in the background of your system that is wreaking havoc with your memory. Look for programs in the Startup folder, or check the System Configuration Tool for programs being started by Windows automatically. (type msconfig in the Run dialog box from the Start Menu, and select the Startup tab).
