Doug, the 70,000 auctions is only what will be online at the launch of the new network. That doesn't include any auctions from MSN's auction site, which is just starting. MSN has eyeballs, lots of them. More eyeballs than eBay.
Another thing, which is interesting, which eBay doesn't have, which the new alliance will: The auction items will come to you, where you go. If you go to MSN.com for example, all the items listed on Lycos, Dell (refurbished equip), Cityauction.com and Excite@Home, will also be listed on MSN.com auction site, in the MSN.com auction format. All the items listed on MSN, Dell, Excite@Home and Cityauction will also be listed on Lycos, in the Lycos auction format. See? Same item, listed on many sites. That is something that has potential to increase. What will happen, who knows. But it's a start.
And everything must start somewhere. 70,000 is just Monday's number. |
