About the NC-"debacle".

From Red Herring

LOS ANGELES -- "We went down a rabbit hole with the
network computer," says Jeremy Burton, Oracle
(ORCL) vice president for server marketing. "But
what the NC diversion allowed us to do was focus on
thin clients." He was fending off an onslaught of
reporters flooding into Oracle's black-curtained booth
at Spring Internet World '99 in Los Angeles.

In a moment of pure candor, Mr. Burton acknowledges
that Oracle had a lot to learn about becoming an
applications company. "The model was what we should
have focused on, not the device," admits Mr. Burton.

I forgive them their mistake. You need luck to become nr. 1.
Ask Bill.
