I really don't understand the synergy between QWST and US West on the residential side. So US West will use QWST as a backbone for bandwidth. So how much does this save the merged entity per year in costs? Most of the costs are in the copper end not the fiber end, and the copper end is not going away anytime soon.

As for comparing GBLX and QWST, QWST has a cleaner balance sheet without preferred shares and a lot of debt to muck things up. Don't underestimate the value of GBLX's landing rights in various SE Asian countries. I consider this a sizeable feat.

I can't make up my mind about GBLX. I trade in and out of it very quickly. The constant downward pricing pressure in the long distance carrier market is scary.
