Analysts Seek Fresh Ways To Play Y2K-Stock Game
By ROBERT MCGOUGH
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

What happened to those far-sighted investors who, 18 months ago, bought the stocks of companies that fix the Y2K computer bug?

Well, they got squashed.

......

For instance, some technology investors are betting that the Y2K bug will get extinguished -- and that the beneficiaries will be business software and service companies that have nothing to do with the Y2K problem. For instance, Whittman-Hart and Siebel Systems could pick up extra sales now that they're no longer competing with Y2K fixers. Similarly, technology budgets suddenly freed from killing the Y2K bug may allow increased corporate spending on the Internet, helping Internet infrastructure companies such as Oracle and EMC.
