Alloy Online and The New York Times Learning Network Announce Content Partnership
The New York Times Learning Network (www.nytimes.com/learning) to Provide Daily Content to Alloy
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1999-- Alloy Online, Inc. (NASDAQ:ALOY - news; www.alloy.com), a leading Internet destination for the boys and girls of Generation Y, and Times Company Digital, the Internet business unit of The New York Times Company, announced today that The New York Times Learning Network (www.nytimes.com/learning) will provide daily news content to the Alloy Online Web site. Content from The New York Times Learning Network, which features comprehensive interactive resources based on the content of the newspaper for students in grades 6-12, will be prominently featured within the ``Today in Alloy' channel.
``By viewing our active message boards and chat rooms and interacting with our community, we know that teens are very interested in the events of the day,' said Matt Diamond, CEO of Alloy Online. ``Partnering with The New York Times Learning Network allows us to provide the Alloy community with current events and commentary from the undisputed `newspaper of record,' putting the high-quality content of The New York Times into context for Gen Y.'
Under the agreement, The New York Times Learning Network will provide Alloy with daily content for the Gen Y audience from the ``student connections' section of the Web site. Daily headlines will be featured on Alloy's homepage and linked to the ``Today in Alloy' channel. Content will be presented in a custom designed environment entitled ``The 411 Brought to You by The New York Times Learning Network' and feature:
o Today's News - Summaries of the day's top news. To read the
stories in full, the summaries are linked to The New York
Times Learning Network Web site for more in-depth commentary.
o Who's Who and What's What - Alloy's community can put their
knowledge to the test by taking part in a daily news quiz of
current events. Each of the questions is shown with a
corresponding image that relates to an article published on
the given day. A hint encouraging the ``contestant' to read
the corresponding article can be found under each question.
o On This Day - Alloy users can learn about interesting events
from the past with this comprehensive guide that links back
to The New York Times's headlines from that day in history.
o Crossword Puzzle - Twice a month, Alloy teens can play a new
themed online crossword puzzle edited by The Times's puzzle
master, Will Shortz.
Alloy Online is tapping into the enormous Internet-centric Generation Y market which, according to the United States Census Bureau, is a population of over 56 million boys and girls between the ages of 10-24. Generation Y accounts for $250 billion worth of disposable income. According to eMarketing, in 1998, 8.4 million teens were online and an estimated 16.6 million teens will be online by 2002.
