I will call omnipoint tomorrow. Thanks for the help. I looked into rental of a GSM phone but the rental rates are around $150 for the two weeks (I mind as well buy a phone for that) and the cost of usage is much higher than if I got on an interntaional plan with a provider before leaving. The rental places mark up the minute costs almost 10X that offered by plans.
