Leon, I have no way of knowing what the linkage might be between their work in plastic fiber and their dwdm development. My guess would be that there might be some overlap at the element interface level, but I would guess that the POF work they are doing has other uses besides dwdm interfacing. This is all from the gut, no direct knowledge, I'm afraid. Their web site doesn't really describe these matters or even give a good clue, and I haven't any other source to go by. Perhaps someone else who is closer to the company can be more helpful on this one.

As for their dwdm's being limited to the transmission characteristics (or the wavelengths which are characteristic of plastic), that one I would tend to seriously doubt. There's no market for such a thing at this time. Also, they state rather clearly that their dwdm product lines and their ancillary devices are intended to be direct replacements for existing gratings and filters currently being used, which tells me that they are playing in the same spectral regions as the conventional optical windows of silica-based strands.

Again, these opinions are from conjecture only. If anyone knows differently, please correct and advise. Thanks.

Regards, Frank Coluccio
