Yesterday I bought 1,000 shares of a NASDAQ stock with a market order. There was no time for a limit order. I clicked on "order status" and it indicated that I bought 1,000 shares at 7 3/16. When I clicked on "executions" it indicated that I bought 500 shares at 7 3/16 and 500 at 7 1/4. Why the discrepancy? I spoke to one of the brokers at Web Street and he said that the system under "order status" probably gave you the initial fill price of 7 3/16 for the first 500 shares but the total number of shares purchased for the complete order of 1,000. Not until I sold the 1,000 shares about two minutes later did I realize that I had a split fill on the purchase at different prices. It seems that Web Street should be able to have its system up to date enough so that this sort of confusion doesn't occur.
