Jean, there was a lot more going on behind the scenes in PMs and e-mail than ever showed up on the thread, both before with people trying to help and finding it fruitless and afterward. There was not only a great deal of shock and remorse that this was not one of the sick jokes that do proliferate on SI; there was also comforting one another and intense grief.
