Fernander Resigns From Compaq Plans To Launch Internet Startup

Bob Fernander, vice president of Compaq Computer Corp.'s Commercial Business Unit, North America, resigned effective Friday.

Fernander said in an interview that he will launch a new Internet-based channel company as early as next week. He declined to divulge the name of the new company or its exact business plan, but said, "It's an Internet-based company that's centered completely on the channel.

"There are huge problems that manufacturers have and huge problems that service providers have and what is rapidly becoming a new set of channels that are providing hardware have in pulling together all the pieces necessary to solve customer problems," he said.

Fernander said he is talking with Compaq about using some of the services that his new company will offer but no deal has been finalized yet.

A Compaq spokeswoman said no replacement has been named for Fernander, but an interim replacement could be named as early as next week.
