Kash,

<Re:"AMD speed grades in Q1/Q2 2000">

My understanding based on all I have seen so far is that they have things in place to do 1 GHz in the first half (without factoring in Dresden). What they will do, I think depends on their segmentation strategy which I think is changing by the day.

So far, AMD has been more reactive than proactive which makes me think that they will stay a speed grade or two ahead on the desktop side and possibly many speed grades higher on the server side. I think the motherboard situation has put them in a pretty tight spot so far. I expect the strategy to become clearer once they can get the logistics under control.

So, my thinking is that unless Intel can hit 1 GHz by first half they will not be in the MHz game. Even this assumes that Dresden yields no additional performance which I am not sure is a good assumption (A German magazine quoted Dresden fab manager couple of weeks back talking about 1 GHz Athlons before the end of this year).
