Sonki: Let's make a bet: I bet NO 3rd hike, especially with AG coming out with a "only fear is fear itself" quote within the past couple of days. I think the Fed is now worried enough about polls showing big numbers of people who are going to sell stocks and empty bank accounts to put cash in the mattress (not to mention buying guns & freeze-dried food) in anticipation of Y2K. We know Fed is telling treasury to print up $50b or so in extra currency just to try to soften the cash hoarding. So: I think they want to leave a little extra liquidity and therefore easier money around for the end of the year. Since worry is the problem, let's give the nervous-nellie people one less thing to worry about, right or wrong, says AG. If not for Y2K, the inflation that they're trying to downplay would definitely call for another hike (maybe 2<g>), but because of Y2K, I don't think so.

You take my bet :-)? By the way, bet covers only actual rate changes, not biases.
