I understand how the rental upon continent change works, what I wasn't aware of was the multiple frequencies for GSM. Unless all European phones were dual band, then many phones of one GSM company wouldn't work as one moved to other areas within Europe. Unless both bands were ubiquitous. I assume they must be.
