Currently E*TRADE is offering $75 if you open up a new account. I think a better offer might be to offer free EGRP shares. Say perhaps 5 shares for free. ETRADE wouldn't lose because eventually they would get the commission on the sale (when the holder sells). And until the seller sells, its pure paper.

Offering something like that might be more appealing to customers who are opening a stock trading account than the $75.
