Glenda,

Before I provide the link to the 38-page report on Gemstar, I'd like to first suggest that anyone remotely interested in the company's proprietary technology should read the report. Having read it a second time (this time I printed it), I am reminded that it is probably the best research report I have ever read. It eliminates all the technological goblledy-gook that we laypeople find intolerably difficult to understand. And it focuses on the true essence of what an investment in Gemstar is really all about.

As examples of that, consider these two excerpts (bold font provided not by me but by the publisher).

The Company wants its IPG [interactive program guide] to be:

* The first page consumers see during a viewing session;
* The first page they see while channel surfing during the commercials;
*The last page they see before moving from TV to the Internet; and
*The first page they see upon returning to TV after surfing the Web, hyperlinking to a site or shopping.

And the second example:

Eventually, we expect IPGs to be as ubiquitous as the remote control, and we believe that using program listings from newspapers will appear as antiquated as walking across the living room floor to change the channel on the TV.

Having hopefully piqued a few others' interest, go to stephens.com

If it is your first visit, you'll need to agree to abiding by their agreement which is free of charge. Once you're at their home page, click in the top right corner on "alphabetical coverage list." Then click on "Gemstar." Then click on the report dated 6/23/99.

(Don't use the chronological coverage. For some odd reason, the report isn't found by that search engine.)

Enjoy!
