NYStew: Many thanks. Much appreciate your direct answers to my questions which I admit come from very limited knowledge - your answers on the contrary clearly come from very deep and broad knowledge.

On the fabless point, Qualcomm is fabless in its primary product - its ASICS which are produced by Intel and IBM with design, testing and sales by the Q itself. Yet that to me does not disqualify it as an equipment supplier. Rambus likewise is fabless. Guess "equipment supplier" is the wrong term for Gemstar however. It makes others' equipment work better if I understand you.

Again, pardon my lack of knowledge, but does Gemstar provide anything other than service rights under its IPRs or is there any software or other "product" which it sells even though it is "fabless".

Recognize that I may simply not be making sense here since I am still at an early stage of learning.

But I respect Mike's research abilities so much (and he respects yours very much indeed) that I ask and hope I am not too off base.

Guess my biggest problem is that I find it difficult to get a handle on the "product" or "products" that Gemstar is selling other than the Program Guide itself.
