I agree with healthfood stores... except when you know what you want... then they are often the only place to go. I wouldn't go in and assume all that stuff is great. As in all stores, you have to know what you're doing, and what you want.
<My suggestion for diet is eat low fat (that tends to eliminate most meats on the shelf), not too much protein, exercise very regularly, drink a beer with your friends and share some wine with your girl friend (or boy friend). >
I hear your brain is 80% fat... I pay absolutely no attention to my fat intake anymore since my diet takes care of it for me... I eat no casien [dairy protein], no gluten [most grains], and almost no processed foods, cook with 'good' oils and butter instead of the crap, eat free range meats and ocean going fish only. Bulk of my diet is still veggies, but I don't worry about how much meat I eat... haven't had much in the way of alcohol since going on the diet, but the occasional glass of wine... and I certainly don't plan on going dry long term if it doesn't make sense, enjoy wine with a wide variety of food.
<loss of beer would dent my pleasures of watching baseball with my father >
This stuff in all genetic IMO anyway, your family is your window to your own health... check your siblings, parents, and grandparents history out... if they've done well on beer [or whatever], great! If they're not that healthy, I would NOT assume it's destiny, look for clues. I have given up beer due to grain & malt content.... haven't bothered to check on rice beers and such which may be better for "non-grain" types... may be worth looking into.
