Actually, I am very pleased when you do so. Part of the problem really is that the idea of courtesy strikes many people as merely old- fashioned, instead of recognizing that it is a department of morality. I am speaking of what is not merely a matter of formality, but of treating people with respect, trying to put them at ease, and going out of one's way to eliminate unnecessary social friction. The formalities of manners help one to do this, but one does not need to know much "etiquette" to be considerate of the feelings others, and to try to avoid superfluous offensive.....
