Hmmm, Paul I think you may have picked the wrong point to focus on. First of all, with its clock for clock architecture lead, especially in floating point, AMD would do just fine with 1/3 cache. But Motorola's copper interconnect technology (that AMD licensed and is using at Dresden) was developed for production and proven on SRAM. They were running 333MHZ a year ago - they are certainly past 400MHZ by now. AMD has that big new copper fab set up with Motorola help and a Motorola technology license, AMD won't have a problem building all the high speed cache it needs. Where will Intel get its static RAM?
