I am not so sure that you can really dismiss Rod as a hothead - or at least not yet...

Maybe I'm reading him wrong, but I don't think he is speaking against legacy code (be it written in COBOL or whatever). He seems to be saying that David Ray, You, and others should not be so high-handedly (i.e. "I've written a million lines of COBOL code") dismissing Java because, as he pointed out, "COBOL is to a programming language what DOS is to a PC".

But I would go further to state that, borrowing from his excellent analogy, then Java would be to a programming language what the Windows revolution was to PCs. And Windows too was dismissed by the vast majority of IS organizations at the time!....

Well, I better go now or I'll be late picking up my wife from work!
