Others have complained in the past about a perceived overemphasis on KM, but really, DST isn't going to go from 72M in sales last year to 400M in a couple years, yet KM can go from just a few M this year from Maxtor alone to upwards of 300-400M in licensing at 100% market share and $1/platter range. Besides, licensing fees are gravy, free, except for R&D costs and regular corporate overhead, so the impact on the bottom line could approach 7-10/share! That's why KM gets so much press here- the impact could be so enormous. No guarantees of course, but we DO know FOR SURE that they're aiming for 100% share and $1/platter.

As far as DST/DIS/DCRsi, they're going whole hog to increase capacity. Their DST 81x line will be doubling again to 25Terabytes mid next year, with a view to a 64 Tbyte machine by 2000! That's storage growth if you ask me, but the market here is somewhat dwarfed by the KM potential, even tho DST can double and maybe double again??? by 2000.
