SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 4, 1997--Madge Networks, a leading worldwide provider of end-to-end switched networking solutions, today announced independent confirmation that it is continuing to increase its share of the Token Ring market, remaining second only to IBM in the worldwide Token Ring adapter market through 1996. The company also demonstrated its continued leadership in the Token Ring market with the announcement of Madge Presto(TM) PCI (please see related news release), as well as with the world's first Token Ring adapter for next-generation laptop computers based on CardBus technology.
"Growing at 20 percent year-to-year, Madge had a strong rate of increase in Token Ring adapter unit sales worldwide in 1996 and upped its market share to 20 percent," said IDC analyst Justin Smith. "With Presto PCI and its new CardBus adapter, Madge is clearly signaling its intention to strengthen its position in the Token Ring adapter market."
Madge is first to market with a new CardBus adapter, designed for the next generation of laptop computers with 32-bit CardBus slots. It delivers enhanced performance for mobile users and provides greater reliability with popular operating systems for simplified installation and use. The CardBus adapter demonstrates Madge's continuing commitment to Token Ring technology and allows users to deploy CardBus-based technologies as they become widely available.
"Madge's history of Token Ring technology leadership -- including being first to market with Dedicated Token Ring products as well as our key role in developing the Token Ring LAN Emulation standard for ATM -- have paid off in our expanding position in the market," said Ken Woods, vice president of Madge's Desktop Business Unit. "Looking ahead, with Presto PCI and our CardBus adapter, we will continue to deliver solutions based on value, innovation and technical excellence for our customers."
