This kind of PDA already exists. It's called a cellphone. It might be worth your while to check out the threads at Nokia and Qualcomm. You'll be amazed to see how far cellphones have developed. You can already surf the Internet on a cellphone (admittedly, it's still slow and text-based -- kinda like PCs & the Internet in the mid-90s, but it's only going to get better).

Judgding by the way their development is going, I'd say cellphones are going to give PDA manufacturers a hell of a run for the money. So, unless things change significantly, I think Apple's $$$ is better spent at figuring out how to ride on the cellphone wave in ways yet unthought of. Now, that would be really thinking different ;)
