BackWeb's Internet Communication Software to be Deployed by
Telenordia, One of Sweden's Leading Telecommunications Companies

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 1999--BackWeb(R) Technologies (Nasdaq: BWEB), a leading provider of Priority Internet communications software for the extended enterprise, today announced that Telenordia, one of Sweden's leading telecommunications companies, will use its technology to proactively deliver multimedia-rich personalized content and software updates to approximately 300,000 ISP (Internet Service Provider) customers.

"We chose BackWeb to help us establish a positive, lifelong relationship with our customers, and to create a continuous dialog with which we can keep them informed," said Claes Bonnier, head of product management at Telenordia. "With BackWeb, we'll take a proactive approach toward meeting the needs of our customers, especially when it comes to support issues. Our customers will automatically receive critical information and software tools without having to visit a Web site or spend time and energy downloading."

BackWeb allows proactive, efficient delivery of any size or type of information to users both inside and outside the organization. Its patented Polite Agent(TM) technology enables companies to take advantage of unused network capacity to automatically deliver information in the background. This avoids interruptions of other applications and activities, such as accessing e-mail and surfing the Web.

Telenordia will also utilize BackWeb's sophisticated attention management tools that will notify its customers of new information, such as technical alerts, new customer offerings, and software updates. These notifications, also called Flashes, appear on the screen regardless of the application in use and can be prioritized based on urgency and content.

"In order to stay competitive, today's telecommunications companies must find new ways to communicate with their customers and to proactively meet their needs," said Anders Nylund, BackWeb Country Manager, Scandinavia. "With BackWeb,
Telenordia will be able to establish a competitive advantage by increasing customer satisfaction as well as reducing costs that are traditionally associated with technical support issues."
