DT,

Not too many companies, if any, could buy HLIT without diluting the hell out of their earnings. According to CIBC, HLIT management recently stated that they are more likely to partner with large telecom OEM's on specific projects than seek a buy-out of the company. CIBC was recommending today that people take a little money off the table on that red-hot due to valuation. Lets see what kind of EPS number they can put up when they report in a month.

Do you have any opinion of CCBL and particularly the Silicon Valley Communciations operation they just closed on today? It looks like CCBL could get perhaps half of the $100+ million AT&T plans on spending on mux-nodes over the next four years, splitting the pie with HLIT. I had been waiting on a little P/E muliple expansion in that stock, which all happened at once due to a press release (9/8/99) they put out talking about shipping nodes into AT&T's Salt Lake City buildout. Hope the "Last Milers" got a piece of that one.

Last week the same CIBC analyst handicapped the chances of a Nortel/ANTC merger at a 25% probability. I can tell you that Egan said in those DLJ meetings last week that he would not sell the company in the way the GIC did. I don't think he was referring to any sort of valuation criteria but was trying to imply that he would seek a substantial premium to the current quote if somebody wanted to buy the company. Of course he has a major chunk of his net worth in ANTC stock.
