Elmatador: To make the case that France is worse off
than Scandinavia:

a) Unemployment rates went from about 2% in the early
1960s to 13% now, in spite of a lowering of the retirement
age to 62 for men and 60 for women (some categories
such as rail employees and truckers have even a retirement
at 55). France has also a conscript army, so that if you
count people who have been drafted or individuals who
were forced to retire, I would say that France has a
true unemployment rate of 20%.

b) Young entrepreneurs are moving in droves to the UK,
where they find a more receptive environment. Things are
so bad that the current French government is discussing
a tax on companies which move from France to foreign
countries.

Scandinavia is not all roses, but France is a certified
nightmare.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
