Hi Nancy,
I am using this response to post something of general interest... I got this request in an email... and I think more people may want to know how to go about setting up a system like I use...
Hi everyone... here is a response to an email request I just answered.
Thanks for the compliments. I have an IBM Aptiva PC - 200 mHz with 32 meg memory and a 2 gig drive. Power IS important as Metastock Explorer scans can take hours on slow machines... normally, my scans are finished in minutes.
You buy the Metastock software from Equis for $349 and load it in your computer. You need a download capability to get stocks updated on a daily basis. I use TC2000... they advertise in most of the trade papers and magazines. Metastock has download capabilities but they are twice as expensive as others.
After getting the TC2000 package, you delete the stocks you don't want and, if you need to, add others. Since I loaded my software, they have come out with later packages which may be easier to set up... I can't say. Then every night you download from TC2000 800 number... typically I am spending 55 cents per trading day for the data on 110 stocks.
As far as indicators, I can only say that Metastock comes with hundreds... there are threads on SI which discuss the value of them. TA for Beginners is where I started... and I go back there frequently. You can pick up new indicators on SI from some of the postings... I put two out there this week.
Then nightly, after your download, you review the stocks you may be interested in, run EXPLOERE scans to see what is new and of interest, and revise your plans and strategies as the situation changes.
I hope this helps. I would be glad to fill in the gaps if you have any questions.
I know I make it sound easy... and it is for me because my background is in computers... I have over 30 years in the field... and that goes back almost to the old ENIAC computer that UNIVAC developed in the late 50s. And I know it can be intimidating if you don't know what you are doing.
Good luck... and I may just post this information on SI for others... without your name, of course.
Regards,
